Potty Training (Might Contain TMI for Some)
Okay, I can't help but brag. I know this day one, this will most likely be at least a week long process if not lots longer, but Aly totally blew me away today. Most of you know why I've waited this long to finally potty train Aly, and lately it's seemed clear that phase is over and she's ready to be a 'big girl.' Anyway. This morning I filled a jar with some of the leftover candy from Lorelei's birthday, and let Aly know that each time she peed or pooped in the potty, she'd get a piece. The theory is that by the time the jar is empty, the reinforcement won't be necessary and the habits will already be in place. Well, each time I took her to the bathroom she would use it. She learned to pull her dress up, let me know when she needed to potty, and let me know when she was done all in one day. Seriously. I even lined her bed with some plastic sheeting aka garbage bag with the sheet over for her nap, and I shouldn't have even bothered with how well she did. She did have one tiny accident, when I put panties on her instead of letting her go commando. I can barely believe the day went so well; I've had my green machine and Shark mop filled and ready for the expected accidents. I've replaced some of the candy with 'jewelries' for non-sugar prizes; otherwise she'd be on a permanent sugar high. By the end of the day she was spending less and less time on the potty, realizing what was expected of her. I'm euphoric, can you tell?
