Grandaddy

A lot of new things have happened in the past few weeks since I've posted, but I've waited to share very much because I haven't quite finished what I've been working on, and I want to be able to post pictures with them. And now I have something much more important to post about.

My paternal grandfather, Curtis Austin, has had a rough past few years. He developed diabetes, has some sort of blindness (I'm unsure of the cause and how blind he is) and hearing loss, and I'm sure other afflictions that I'm forgetting right now, with a life that consisted of going to the doctor every other day. It has been hard on him and on his wife, Grace, who has diligently taken care of him. Thursday night apparently he accidentally hit a button on a chair he was sleeping in, a button which lifted him to a standing position, causing him to fall forward, get a gash on his head, and break his neck in two places. The doctors have said that he wouldn't survive the surgery to fix the worst of the breaks, so he is required to wear a neck brace for the rest of his life while lying in a specific position. He's going to have to learn to swallow wearing this brace, as he can't do so right now, and he will have to go into a nursing home. If he gets sick, falls and hurts his neck again, or anything of the like he will most likely die from it. It is heartbreakingly sad to know that this is what the rest of his life will be like. Needless to say, this will probably be his last Father's Day. Please pray for him and my family.

You Give Me Fever

This has been one looong week. It seems like every day is full of new things. I'm probably going to forget them all, especially in light of the past few days.

Tuesday Lorelei woke up with a 101.8 fever, which turned to 104 by the middle of the day. I've never had one of them with a fever that high, so I naturally freaked out and took Lorelei to the ER. We waited there a few hours to find that she had an ear infection. I felt a little silly taking her to the emergency room for an ear infection, but I don't do well with high fevers. Neither, it seems, does she. She's been so miserable, just sleeping and crying, screaming bloody murder every time I wasn't holding her. Yesterday her temperature got that high again, and I had to give her tepid baths to try and get it down. I even had to call the doctor again, because to me that just seems way too high for an eight month old baby.

God has answered my prayers today. Although she woke up with a 103.2 fever, after eating breakfast she started acting like she felt better. I took her temp, and it was normal. She started acting like she wanted to crawl again, would let me put her down... I even got some smiles and laughs out of her. You know she's feeling bad if there are no smiles. I'm hoping and praying that when she wakes from her nap that she'll still be fever free, with the worst of this gone.

Now on to some pictures and updates! Matt and I are the same, nothing new concerning us. Aly went to a party two weeks ago and had a great time; she apparently lifted a little girl's shirt and tried to 'buzz' the girl's stomach... the little girl was not amused. I wasn't there, Lorelei was teething pretty ferociously. Speaking of which, she now has two teeth on the bottom. Here are some pictures of that day.

Funny face montage.

Trying to hug Lorelei away from the camera. She doesn't like to share her spotlight.

I've been trying to organize a bit more, and one of my favorite things is keeping little toy cubbies in our living room. The girls can play and help me put it back, and there is no string of toys leading from their rooms (mostly and in theory). Aly finds it much more fun to take all the toys out of a box and stand/sit in it rather than play with the toys themselves. I'm thinking refrigerator box for Christmas this year...

Ah my Lorelei. She is growing up way too fast. Everyday is something new for her. This past Saturday she taught herself to clap, she started cruising on Sunday and Monday, tomorrow it will be algebra.

Aly has been learning her abcs and to count to 10. She will count only 1-3, 4-6, or 7-9 on command, but sometimes you'll hear her counting all the way to 8 or 9 when she's not aware of being overheard. She's even learning to overcome her prejudice of 4. She's also growing more independent in putting on clothes. If I don't put the clothes she wants to wear on her right then she'll make an attempt herself. Not always perfect, but valiant nonetheless.

For instance, she decided to go through Matt's drawer and put on as many clothes as she could. I found her on the floor in our bedroom, complaining that she couldn't move *snicker*.
I know this picture is bad, I just wanted to illustrate just how many shirts she had put on over her dress. I believe the body count was 9.

Recently as well my mother and sister had birthdays. Lorelei was sick on Mother's and Mandy lives 5 hours away, so we didn't get to see them on those days. Mandy also got engaged on her birthday, and they've set the day to October 31. Only Mandy would choose Halloween ;). I'm in the search for good, quality costumes for the girls for the reception, so suggest away.

Aly has just reminded me of another of her new favorite things (in addition to chocolate juice, "What's that?" and 'prince' dresses), which is knock knock jokes. She doesn't say 'who', but she will go on forever asking for and saying knock knock jokes. She always seems to say tent for the person who's there, I don't know what that's about. And when I reply with the boo knock knock joke, she pretends to cry. I blame Matt.
