Grandaddy

A lot of new things have happened in the past few weeks since I've posted, but I've waited to share very much because I haven't quite finished what I've been working on, and I want to be able to post pictures with them. And now I have something much more important to post about.

My paternal grandfather, Curtis Austin, has had a rough past few years. He developed diabetes, has some sort of blindness (I'm unsure of the cause and how blind he is) and hearing loss, and I'm sure other afflictions that I'm forgetting right now, with a life that consisted of going to the doctor every other day. It has been hard on him and on his wife, Grace, who has diligently taken care of him. Thursday night apparently he accidentally hit a button on a chair he was sleeping in, a button which lifted him to a standing position, causing him to fall forward, get a gash on his head, and break his neck in two places. The doctors have said that he wouldn't survive the surgery to fix the worst of the breaks, so he is required to wear a neck brace for the rest of his life while lying in a specific position. He's going to have to learn to swallow wearing this brace, as he can't do so right now, and he will have to go into a nursing home. If he gets sick, falls and hurts his neck again, or anything of the like he will most likely die from it. It is heartbreakingly sad to know that this is what the rest of his life will be like. Needless to say, this will probably be his last Father's Day. Please pray for him and my family.
